The Unofficial Bottleweb Guide to Fuels

My idea could become official if the owner of bottleweb accepts to the challenge.

http://bottleweb.org/viewforum.php?f=2

I recently posted a topic called: Is Wind Power All it's Cracked Up To Be? Nuke vs Wind. And another topic called: Is Oil Renewable? The Abiogenic Origin of Oil. When Jason posted another topic called: Biofuels vs. Nuclear. After eading this topic, I came up with the idea of a guide to fuels.
Thus came: The Unofficial Bottleweb Guide to Fuels

In my study to discover which source of energy is the best, I have discovered that:
Oil might be renewable ( http://www.bottleweb.org/viewtopic.php?t=24 ), Wind Power is not good enough to power a country like the US, ( http://www.bottleweb.org/viewtopic.php?t=25 ), Nuclear Power is extremely dangerous and bad for the environment ( http://bottleweb.org/viewtopic.php?t=31 ) and
Biofuels are better than nuclear. ( http://bottleweb.org/viewtopic.php?t=31 )

But I still have more to research (Some sources may be done and have links to the study). Jason has already contributed with his topic (Biofuels vs. Nuclear), but I was hoping that other people would help by contributing anythingthat might be useful. If you do write up a topic, then please report it in the announcements board, thankyou.
The list so far:
Fossil Fuels:
Coal
Oil ( Is it reneable: http://www.bottleweb.org/viewtopic.php?t=24 )
Gas
Renewables:
Solar Power
Wind Power ( http://www.bottleweb.org/viewtopic.php?t=25 )
Pelamis Wave Converter
Other:
Nuclear ( http://www.bottleweb.org/viewtopic.php?t=25 ; http://bottleweb.org/viewtopic.php?t=31 )
Biofuels ( http://bottleweb.org/viewtopic.php?t=31 )

I hope that more people will contrinute to this project, if you do write a topic about one of these fuels.

From Environmentalists_Suck

P.s. This will be posted in the renewable fuels technology board too, please reply here if you have written a topic, or have any information on, any type of fuel on the list.
If you have any suggestions, PM me and I will add it on to the list ASAP.

I think common sense is the way. Solar power and wind combined over an entire country can easily produce a constant and smooth supply of electricity. The problem is that it will be prohibitively expensive to construct these on such a large scale. I think the key is waste.

We produce massive amounts of biowaste that we just throw away, why not use it? I don't know the figures, but we throw out so much free energy that we really should be utilising. I'll look this up and try to get some figures...

The Unofficial Bottleweb Guide to Fuels

Fossil fuels aren´t the way.
They will over and are bad to global warming.
Solar powerare good, un clear energy but at night????lol
Wind is good to but the day have parts when it does not have wind.
Pelamis wave converter are un clean energy and is it has the year all.
But are hard to cunstruct.
Nuclear its dangerous......Forget
Biofuel.Product 80 % less dioxyde carbon that burn fossil fuel.
But we don´t produce sufficient.

The Guide Went Official!

Yes, the administrator decided to go along with my plan!

The Bottleweb Encyclopedia is up and running, all we need now are people to contribute to it.

I can't beleive that, only joining on the 18th (3 days ago), I have revolutionised this forum! Now, instead of just being a forum, it is an encyclopedia aswell!

I think this site has real potential, with a wiki that people can edit and improve it would be an amazing resource. I don't think I've ever seen a website produce content on this topic without an agenda, so that would definitely be a first!

An Articles or Wiki Page

I do have a few family members who know quite a bit about computer programming:

    1. My Uncle 2. My Brother
    3. My other Brother
It's just a question of if they have any knowledge of php or wiki.

In regards to content, we would gladly create a fuels guide providing that:

    1. The content was not bias, and any views expressed must be either quoted or directly implied by cited sources. 2. All members have controlled but equal access rights to the content.
We (Me and Jason) have written two topics on the subject. I don't think that these are biased, but I would prefer something which was more of a 'Fact File' than a comparison. They should be based on: How Many?, How Useful? and How Much?, and obviously the pro's and cons should be marked out clearly, at the bottom matbe. Anyone contributing should cite sources for their information.

This would be an extremely useful advance for the website, as you said, people could find out how good certain sources of energy are, and would make the website not only a forum, but a whole website on the subject!

If anyone can find a friend or family member (or they themselves know anything), it would be helpful if they could help.

This is a great idea! It would not only help generate interest and participation, but would also be a great resource for anyone wanting information on the topic.

Unfortunately our programming skills in php are somewhat limited. We had previously looked into ways of creating an 'articles' section, where higher ranked members could post articles that are displayed seperately from normal discussion posts. However, we decided not to go with this until we had completed setting up the main framework of the site. The website framework has recently been completed, so we are looking for new additions to the website.

We were thinking of adding something like a wiki to the site, where articles can be edited by members. We could then display the articles on a seperate page from the main 'home' page. The guide to fuels could be the first addition to this project.

In regards to content, we would gladly create a fuels guide providing that:

    1. The content was not bias, and any views expressed must be either quoted or directly implied by cited sources.
    2. All members have controlled but equal access rights to the content.

If you have (or know anyone who does) any expertise in website programming, we would welcome their support. We'll get back to you with more details soon.

Thanks again for your enthusiasm, we all think this is a great idea!
