Welcome to Bottleweb (Read this first).

Bottleweb is a new website aimed at generating intelligent discussions about the environment. It is also here to promote political and academic ideas about the implementation of new technologies and environmentally friendly ways of living our lives. You've probably noticed that this site doesn't have many members at the moment. That's because we're only just getting started! Absolutely anyone interested in the issues raised at Bottleweb is welcome to Join.

We have seen heavy subsidies of renewable energy production in Germany and other countries, growing Biofuels production in the Americas and intensifying research into Carbon Sequestration in Australia (just to name a few). While many scientists and politicians - although definitely not all - would agree that energy sources such as Solar and wind are a step in the right direction, there are many other semi renewable fuels sources which don't fit into the category of 'sustainable' quite as easily. A good example of these might be Nuclear Power, which generates power without the emission of carbon dioxide, yet has many potential risks. Another is Palm oil plantations, which are promising a renewable substitude for petrol, while threatening the ecosystems of many south-east asian rainforests.

Humanity's effects on the environment are a global issue, and time has shown that each country has a unique way of responding to this global crisis. So although Bottleweb is an Australia-based forum, members from anywhere in the world are encouraged to join and be a part of this growing community.

For now I encourage you to introduce yourself to the existing Bottleweb members, and have your say in the discussions. If you have something you'd like to bring up, and want to know how others might respond, just start your own topic!

Have fun, and be sure to stick around while the site grows.

Best Regards,
Bottleweb Admin

P.S. The forums and categories as they are set up now are our best guess at what would the most useful format. I would appreciate any feedback/suggestions so if you'd like to see some changes in the format, or some new forums just let us know.
